Originally two pagodas were built by King Ramathibodi II to house the remains of his father King Borommatrailokanat and his brother King Borommarachathirat III. After the death of King Ramathibodi II a third was built on order of King Borommarachanophuttangkun to house the remains of Ramathibodi II.
