Vishnu is the formless supreme god of Vaishnavism (one of the principal denominations of Hinduism), and "the Preserver or the Protector".
In one story, a demon hid the earth at the bottom of the primeval ocean. Vishnu incarnated as Varaha, a gigantic boar, and lifted the earth to safety. The earth is personified here as Bhūmi, Hindu goddess representing Mother Earth.
In one hand, Varaha holds the conch shell (who sound representst the vibrational tone of the universe), and in another the chakra (representative of energy and destiny).
