Usage

1341 gathering of prince-electors from the constituent states of the Holy Roman Empire. The use of heraldry as a means to identify geographical entities is a centuries-old tradition, preceding flags.

This is a template for the orderly and simple illustration of entities – e.g. in lists of countries, regions, cities or persons – by means of their respective coats of arms.

The omission of all elements of achievement save the quintessential escutcheon is a conventional heraldic practice that ensures the distinctiveness of the motifs even at low resolutions (20px is default). This also provides a meaningful degree of uniformity.

I.e. e.g. {{Coat of arms|Belgium}} would produce the image instead of variants such as ឯកសារ:Great Coat of Royal Arms of Belgium.svg, ឯកសារ:State Coat of Royal Arms of Belgium.svg or .
